Wednesday Morning Pottery -- May

Have a lot of fun and let your creative side delight you. Each person will have the option to make creative functional items such as bowls and cups as well as simple expressive clay sculpture with instructor guidance. Basic Wheel Throwing for Beginners — May 2024

This one month, Sunday afternoon course introduces students to the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. Your instructor will cover technique, trimming, and glazing application. This includes wedging, centering, cylinders, bowls, and surface decoration. All levels of beginners from first time students to advanced beginners. Small class size is like having your own coach. Class includes clay, all tools, and firing.

Creative Ceramics Retreat - Adults
with Emilie Parker
At this 5 day workshop for adults from 10 to 4 every day for a week plus Sunday night, you'll have fun learning the pottery wheel, creativity, new techniques, field trips and building your skill. You'll get as much practice time as you need to really improve your skill -- hours of coached wheel time every day for 5 days -- making plates, large bowls, altered wheel shapes. Learning and practicing centering, pulling, collaring, shaping trimming, drying and recycling. Mornings are spent working with teacher's help on wheel skill-building or learning the wheel for the first time. A healthy and delicious lunch is included. Afternoons include fun creative extensions of your skills such as creating a crackeled surface, wheel based scrifitto, throwing large using coils on the wheel. We'll also be experiencing the Huberman creativity exercises, go on a field trip to the American Museum of Ceramic Arts, Santa Monica Beach, and a demo of throwing large by guest artist Zac Hould. The class size is limited to 6 people and each will have a wheel. There are several good hotels within 2 miles on Huntington Drive near 5th St. in Arcadia. Transportation to and from the hotels or airbnb's is provided. A packing and shipping service will be available for completed work. Call 240-350-8533 for more details.
Retreat starts Sunday, June 23rd at 7pm and goes until 4pm on Friday June 28th.
